Special Offering

One familiar way to raise funds for missional causes is to take a special offering. The important part, however, is to use the offering as an opportunity to educate the congregation on the ministry. Start at least a month ahead to build energy around the good work LPI is doing and around the idea that your church is part of a bigger, connectional giving effort. Use the following resources to introduce your people to this opportunity.

Young People

The LPI campaign could be a chance for your church’s young people to learn about kids in Juarez and El Paso and how deeply they value the education they are able to receive. Your student ministry might even decide to strike up a long-distance friendship with the students at LPI. Relationships are the best foundation for missional giving.

Challenges

Perhaps your church or some class or group within it could challenge another church or group to raise or surpass a particular amount. See who else in your district has taken on a commitment to LPI, and develop a ministry partnership toward a common end.

Christmas is Not Your Birthday

This program from Rev. Mike Slaughter and Ginghamsburg Church offers deeper, more formational approach to the special offering. The five-chapter book is a study of the contrast between the Christ child, whose God-with-us presence we celebrate at Christmas, and the overindulgent hype that surrounds us during the season. Using this approach reorients the church to a transformative experience of discipleship as we kneel at the manger. LPI is one possible focus for your church’s giving as you seek to embrace Advent and Christmas in a new way.
