Elders of the Rio Texas Annual Conference,
Step away from the everyday and into a space of rest, reflection, and renewal. Dr. Dallas Gingles will guide us through the teachings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, sharing the wisdom Bonhoeffer once offered to the pastors he trained. Together, we’ll learn, play, pray, and enjoy the gift of community.
Lodging is in hotel-style rooms, each with a queen bed and at least one twin (some rooms include bunk beds). Linens and towels are provided. Please bring your own toiletries. Everything else will be ready for you.
You're welcome to make your own arrangements at nearby hotels in Mathis or George West, each within about a 45-minute drive of the retreat site.
Cost:
• Staying on campus with meals: $150 (2-3 people per room)
• Staff of campus, Meals only: $60 (your are responsible for your own lodging)

Our speaker for the retreat is Dr. Dallas Gingles. Dr. Gingles is Assistant Dean of Hybrid Education, Associate Professor of Practice in Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics, and Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, where he teaches courses in moral theology, systematic theology, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Reinhold Niebuhr, and bioethics. His research focuses on ethics of responsibility in questions of politics, bioethics, the doctrine of providence, and everyday life.
His current work includes a monograph tentatively titled Abraham’s Sons: Lincoln, America, and Christian Realism and two co-edited volumes: “In the Face of Barbarism:” Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Ethics of Everyday Life and The Means of Grace: The Work, Witness, and Legacy of William J. Abraham. He is one of the editors of The Future of Christian Realism: International Conflict, Political Decay, and the Crisis of Democracy, has published in the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics, Studies in Christian Ethics, and other journals, and is a frequent contributor to The Dallas Morning News.

Retreat begins on Sunday, September 14 at 6:00 p.m. and ends on Tuesday, September 16 at 11:30 a.m. The cost for those staying at the camp will be $150. If we run out of rooms, or you would prefer to stay off campus in a hotel, there are several within a 40-minute drive (in George West or Mathis). You can make your own hotel reservations. Please register as an off-campus attendee and pay $60 to cover your meals, snacks, and supplies.
While there will be snacks available throughout our time together, the only meals provided will be breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Monday, and breakfast on Tuesday. We will be staying in the hotel section of the camp. Some rooms will hold three people and some two. When you register, please indicate your roommate preference, or I will choose for you. In each room, linens and towels are provided. You will need to bring your own toiletries.
