Chaplain Assistant
/The Wesleyan is seeking full-time Chaplain Assistant to work within their Senior Living Community.
Essential Job Functions: • Provides appropriate spiritual care to the residents and their family members as well as to the employees of The Wesleyan. • Provides spiritual care and support to individuals of all faiths or no faith. • Regularly performs religious services, in an ecumenical spirit, at all community buildings and with individuals of all care levels. This will require an understanding of the various different communication levels related to Aging, Dementia and various theological frameworks. • Write and deliver sermons within a traditional liturgical format. • Administers the sacrament of Holy Communion under the supervision of the Director of Spiritual Life. • Leads study classes and assists in the recruitment of teachers and visiting choirs as needed from among residents and area churches. • Attends and participates in The Wesleyan's bi-annual memorial services and assists the Director of Spiritual Life in the planning of individual memorial services for residents and their families. Complete hospital visitations of residents as needed and required and in a timely fashion. • Upholds the values and beliefs of the Wesleyan Board of Trustees and serves to meet the mission of The Wesleyan.
Qualifications & Experience: • Must be a current, active ordained minister, deacon or elder (priest/pastor), preferably of the United Methodist Church is required. A minister of another denomination will be considered if the candidate does not have strong doctrinal differences from the United Methodist Church and articles of religion and can preside at an open communion table. • Must be of good moral and ethical character and in good mental and physical condition. • Must have a strong understanding or willingness to learn about issues related to Aging, Dementia, Senior Health Care, Home Health, Hospice and Grief. • Must be willing and able to cooperate with regulatory agencies, board members, administrators, other team leaders, fellow employees and residents. • Strong oral and written communication skills are required as well as the ability to document resident/client/staff interaction in a timely and clear fashion. • Must be able to lift, move, push and manipulate at least 30 lbs. including the ability to push and move wheelchairs, rollators and Geri-chairs on both carpeted and tiled floors. • Must possess leadership ability. • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, and be able to handle residents and family members based on whatever maturity or cognitive level at which they are currently functioning. • Must be available on Sunday mornings and on-call at least one week each month. • Travel throughout the surrounding area is required. • A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
