The Reverend Dr. Aaron A. Gonzalez serves as the Assistant to the Bishop of the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. In this capacity, Dr. Gonzalez provides executive-level leadership in support of the episcopal office, overseeing strategic initiatives and facilitating the administrative, pastoral, and connectional responsibilities of the Conference. His work includes strengthening relationships among clergy and congregations, advancing the mission of the United Methodist Church, and supporting the Bishop in providing spiritual and organizational oversight to the Conference.

Dr. Gonzalez previously served as the Director of Spiritual Care and Church Connections for Methodist Healthcare Ministries, where he was appointed by the Bishop to serve as the primary liaison between the healthcare organization and the Rio Texas Conference. During his tenure, he played a significant role in advancing the organization’s mission of Serving Humanity to Honor God, ensuring that its commitment to health equity and holistic well-being remained grounded in its faith-based values. Dr. Gonzalez also provided pastoral leadership, spiritual direction, and organizational guidance to staff and community stakeholders.

Before entering vocational ministry, Dr. Gonzalez held various leadership roles within USAA Insurance Company in San Antonio, Texas, where he served for over a decade, gaining extensive experience in corporate leadership, organizational development, and operational management.

Dr. Gonzalez is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Our Lady of the Lake University, a Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership Excellence from Wesley Theological Seminary. An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, Dr. Gonzalez brings to his ministry more than 15 years of pastoral leadership experience, a deep commitment to the church’s connectional system, and a passion for equipping leaders to serve with excellence and integrity.
