SARJFON “Who Is My Neighbor Now?” Workshop

Las Misiones District and San Antonio Region Justice for Our Neighbors will present a Who Is My Neighbor Now? Workshop on churches’ possible responses to the immigration crisis for any interested, on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon, at University United Methodist Church, in the John Wesley Room, at 5084 De Zavala Road, San Antonio. All are invited. Though advance registration is not required, it is requested! Please send name, email and phone number to Rev. Sharon Freeto at sharonf@riotexas.org or call the District Office at 210-408-4520.

 Information will be shared about the options churches have in mission, the legal implications of the variety of possible responses, ways in which individual Christians can become more involved, the on-going work of the San Antonio Region Justice for Our Neighbors, (our faith-based legal aid organization), and the many ways in which the United Methodist Church is responding on regional and national levels. Dialogue and discussion will be encouraged.

The San Antonio Region Justice for Our Neighbors Staff Immigration Lawyer, Juan Castro will address legal issues for churches and individuals wanting more information via video. Mr. George Chumillo, local Immigration lawyer, and SARJFON Board Member, will be present to answer specific questions following the video.  Abel Vega, Rio Texas Conference Director of Outreach Vitality, will outline the response of the Rio Texas Immigration Response Team.

In addition, Rev. Suzanne Isaacs, Executive Director of San Antonio Region Justice for Our Neighbors, an Immigration Ministry of the United Methodist Church, will share the organization’s mission and ministry.

A week of fun in the Son!  JUNE 26 - JUNE 30, 2017

For children entering 3rd-5th Grade

Arts, crafts, sports, water balloons, water slide and worship, along with fellowship and activities using the many amenities of Cross Roads will sure to be a memorable and rewarding experience for your child.  This year marks the 2nd year of Son Days Overnight Camp at Cross Roads Retreat Center and we are thrilled!

Our camp counselors have all been trained by standards set by the State of Texas and the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Our aim is to create an atmosphere of inclusiveness and guidance to set as example the lessons that Jesus taught us in a serene and nurturing setting.  Each day children will be able to select small group activities such as arts or sports and will begin and end with large group time of worship in either indoor or outdoor sanctuary.

Hispanic Youth Ministry Convocation 2017

This event, commencing with the Barton Lecture on Thursday evening and concluding on Saturday at lunch, will gather those engaged in ministry with Hispanic youth for an enriching time of learning and networking. Participants will select a focus area of ministry and attend workshops led by field experts. The experiences of Hispanic youth and young adults will be highlighted.
