Worship Leader
/La Vernia United Methodist Church currently has an opening for the position of Worship Leader. The main responsibility would be to lead music at the traditional 8:30am and contemporary 11:00am worship services on Sundays and for the youth on Wednesdays starting at 6:00pm. As a result of current pandemic, current responsibilities would include one service on Sundays at 10 a.m. and assisting Director of Youth and Family Ministries with music needs.
Essential duties include:
• Convey a cheerful, welcoming, helpful presence to all who enter the church
• Provide an uplifting spiritual experience that draws the congregation into closer relationship to God
• Work with the Pastor in planning and leading worship on Sunday mornings
• Lead the traditional and contemporary worship services, choir, and other music-related activities by recruiting volunteers, leading practices, selecting music, and related activities
• Work with the Director of Youth and Family Ministries in planning and leading worship for youth group on Wednesday nights and/or family ministries activities (i.e. Christmas, Easter, etc.)
• Train volunteers in developing praise and music teams for worship, traditional and hand bell choirs
• File the necessary paperwork to comply with copyright for services led (the church has a CCLI license)
• Demonstrate voice and musical acumen
• Demonstrate proficiency in a musical instrument preferred
Other responsibilities include:
• Communicate weekly with the Pastor
• Communicate weekly with the Director of Youth and Family Ministries
• Maintain professional development through continuing education
• Work with volunteer audio and video technicians toward a quality worship experience
• Other duties as assigned
This is a part-time salaried position currently based on 10 – 12 hours per week (including preparation and rehearsal) with at least 7 hours a week on-site (3 on Wednesdays, 4 on Sundays). At 10 hours a week, this leaves 3 hours to rehearse with praise team and choir. Salary starts at $18,000 per year depending on experience. Specific hours will be adjusted based on the needs of the church, special activities during Christmas, and/or other events.
Applicants must have a Methodist background or willing to learn basic Methodist traditions and liturgy. Applicant must also agree to abide by the Personnel Policies and Benefits manual of La Vernia United Methodist Church, comply with church safety policy and willing to complete Safe Gathering certification programs, including passing a background check as required by the Safe Gatherings program of the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church.
