2018 Rio Texas Annual Conference Steps Up!

You’ve probably have heard of mall walking—now Rio Texas is going to be “conference walking”! In the interest of physical, mental, and spiritual wellness, the new Rio Texas Wellness Team is inviting Annual Conference attendees to track the number of steps they walk during our gathering this year in Corpus Christi, June 6-9.

The first step is to make sure you’re enrolled in some sort of step tracking program. Some already wear devices for this purpose (Fitbit, Misfit, Apple Watch), or most smartphones easily track steps. The second step is to stop by the Rio Texas Wellness Booth, located in the exhibit hall at the American Bank Center in Corpus. Update us on how many steps you’ve taken, and we’ll help you mark your progress with “JUST GO” stickers.

For the fun (and health) of it, we are using an average of 2000 steps per mile for calculation. That’s not quite accurate, and each person’s step measures differently, but it’s a common number to use. Once you’ve stepped the equivalent of a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or marathon, you’ll receive a sticker to celebrate your progress.

5k = 6,200 steps

13.1 miles (half marathon) = 26,200 steps

10k = 12,400 steps

26.2 miles (marathon) = 52,400 steps

Let’s see how far we can walk together! JUST GO.

Opportunities to JUST GO:

·       Walk the conference plenary floor while catching up with old friends

·       Explore the inside of the American Bank Center

·       Walk or jog early morning with one of our Wellness Team members

·       Walk from the hotel to the American Bank Center and/or back again

·       Park across the street and take the stairs to the conference center

·       Take an evening stroll after dinner with family and friends

For added fun, snap an action photo of your walk and post it on Instagram, #riotxjustgo. You might even make it onto the big screen in the plenary hall!

What’s most important is that you’ll be taking an important “step” in caring for your health. For some, a 5k will be a huge accomplishment; others will be amazed to complete a step-marathon in just a few days. Wherever you’re starting from, your health matters, because you matter. JUST GO.
