LA BIBLIA DEL OSO:
THE WRITTEN WORD IN OUR OWN TONGUE
An ecumenical gathering to commemorate and celebrate the 450th anniversary of the publication of the Bible in Spanish, known as La Biblia del Oso which was translated by Casiodoro de Reina in 1569.
The event will include presentations on the historical, religious, cultural and literary impact of the Bible in Spanish on world Christianity, especially the Protestant Movement in Europe, the Americas, and other continents. It will also feature scripture readings, prayers, hymns and a Litany of Remembrance. It is sponsored by the Office of Mission, Service, and Justice Ministries and the Las Misiones District of the Río Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. It will be hosted by Oxford United Methodist Church on Reformation Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. The church is located at 9739 Huebner Road in San Antonio. The presentations and liturgy will utilize both English and Spanish.

“CONSIDERING THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF LA BIBLIA DEL OSO” - Dr. Roberto L. Gomez, Retired Elder, Rio Texas Conf.
“The importance of the of the socio-cultural and spiritual impact of the Publication Of La Biblia del Oso on the emerging Protestant movement in Spain in the XVI century” - Dr. Isabel do Campo, Perkins School of Theology
“The Meaning, Implications, and Challenges of La Biblia del Oso por present and future Christian generations” - Dr. Guillermo Chavez, Retired Elder, Rio Texas Conf.
In addition, Bishop Robert Schnase will speak on “Our Common Biblical Heritage”. Dr. Raquel Mora Martinez has written a hymn for the Celebration titled: “Lumbrera en Nuestro Camino” (Light in our Path). The Service will also include pre-service music by Oxford United Methodist Church Choir and a Children’s Procession with Bibles to begin the Service. Finally, we are pleased to announce that the First Lady of San Antonio, Erica Prosper Nirenberg will be attending and bringing greetings on behalf of Mayor Ron Nirenberg and herself. Invitations to Ecumenical Colleagues have been extended for their participation as well.

LA PALABRA ESCRITA EN NUESTRA PROPIA LENGUA
Una reunión ecuménica para conmemorar y celebrar el 450avo Aniversario de la publicación de la Biblia en español, conocida como La Biblia del Oso, que fue traducida por Casiodoro de Reina en 1569.
Este evento incluye presentaciones sobre el impacto histórico, religioso, cultural y literario que tuvo la Biblia en español en el mundo Cristiano, especialmente en el Movimiento Protestante exsistente en Europa, las Américas, y otros continentes. Además incluirá lecturas de las sagradas escrituras, oraciones, himnos y una letanía referente a la remembranza. Está auspiciado por la Oficina de Misión, Servicio, y Ministerios de Justicia y el Distrito de las Misiones de la Conferencia Río Texas de la Iglesia Metodista Unida. Se llevará a cabo el Domingo de la Reforma, 27 de octubre, 2019, a las 4:00-5:30 de la tarde en la Iglesia Metodista Unida Oxford, ubicada en 9739 Huebner Road en San Antonio. Las presentaciones y liturgia utilizarán el inglés y el español.

"El Significado, las Implicaciones y los Desafíos de La Biblia del Oso y las generaciones Cristianas presentes y futuras" - Dr. Guillermo Chávez, Presbítero Jubilado, Conferencia de Río Texas
Además, el Obispo Robert Schnase hablará sobre "Nuestra Herencia Biblica Común". La Dra. Raquel Mora Martínez ha escrito un himno para la celebración titulado: "Lumbrera en Nuestro Camino" (Light in our Path). El Servicio también incluirá música previa al servicio del Coro de la Iglesia Metodista Unida de Oxford y una Procesión de Niños con Biblias para comenzar el Servicio. Finalmente, nos complace anunciar que la Primera Dama de San Antonio, Erica Prosper Nirenberg, asistirá y saludará en nombre del alcalde Ron Nirenberg y ella misma. También se han extendido invitaciones a colegas ecuménicos para su participación.
