Worship Band Leader

First United Methodist Church in Corpus, Texas, is seeking a Worship Band Leader.

REPORTS TO: Director of Music, Worship and the Arts Effective: 4/01/2025
STATUS: Part Time, exempt

Job Summary
The Worship Band Leader (WBL) plays an important role in encouraging community and helping to create an engaging worship experience for the congregation. This individual will lead and coordinate the musical aspects of the contemporary worship service (currently Sundays at 9:00 am) in alignment with the CCFUMC mission to “help people experience Christ, and his infinite love, available to all.” The WBL works closely with the Director of Music, Worship, and the Arts (DMA) to help the music work together with the proclaimed Word and Lord’s Supper for each Sunday worship. This is a part-time position with a work estimation of 8 to 10 flexible hours a week in addition to leading the congregation each Sunday morning. Compensation is based on aptitude, qualifications, education and experience. Compensation includes up to one vacation Sunday each quarter.

Essential Functions
• Be an active member of the church leadership team, demonstrating loyalty, commitment to the mission of the church, and a professional approach to issues involving teamwork.
• Actively recruit, introduce, and retain worship band members for each weekly service.
• Select music for each Sunday contemporary service, coordinating with the DMA when possible, by Tuesday morning of each week.
• Have familiarity with Planning Center and ProPresenter software for planning weekly worship services and for scheduling band members.
• Rehearse the worship band in preparation for all Sunday services, and schedule additional rehearsals as needed for the service to be prepared.
• Prepare the worship band for any additional worship or fellowship events that it may lead (Special services may include Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunrise, Community Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve).
• Called as needed to serve as an ex officio member the Worship committee.
• Recommend annual budget for contemporary worship music and equipment, and administer the approved budget.
• Work with our Production Team (AV) to maximize the experience of the Worship Band both within the fellowship hall and to our streaming services.
• Operate within the laws of the United States and the State laws, including copyright laws.
• In consultation with the DMA, arrange for suitable replacement and music in cases of absence during the term of employment.

Minimum Qualifications
Desired qualifications include a degree in music and/or demonstrated effectiveness/experience in leading music for contemporary worship services; ability to recruit and retain praise band members; ability to relate well to all age groups; evidence of creativity; and organizational, communication, human relations, and supervisory skills. The Worship Band Leader should also be able to represent First United Methodist Church and its congregation with integrity and character.
