Contemporary Worship Leader & Choir Director

La Vernia United Methodist Church announces an opening for the position of Contemporary Worship Leader. The main responsibilities would be to lead music at the 11:00am contemporary worship service on Sundays and for the youth on Wednesdays starting at 6:00pm. Secondary responsibilities are to lead congregational hymn singing at the 8:30am traditional worship service and direct the sanctuary choir, with Wednesday night practices.

Essential duties include: • Convey a cheerful, welcoming, helpful presence to all who enter the church • Provide an uplifting spiritual experience that draws the congregation into closer relationship to God • Work with the Pastor in planning and leading worship on Sunday mornings • Work with the Youth Minister in planning and leading worship on Wednesday nights • Basic training of volunteers in developing praise and music teams for worship • Direct the Sanctuary Choir in practice and 8:30am worship. • Filing the necessary paperwork to comply with copyright for services led (the church has a CCLI license) • Leadership and development of volunteer A/V team for sound and livestreaming.

Other responsibilities include: • Communicate weekly with the Pastor • Communicate weekly with the Youth Minister • Maintain proficiency in a musical instrument • Professional Development through continuing education • Work with volunteer audio and video technicians toward a quality worship experience • Other duties as assigned

This is a part-time exempt salaried position based on 20 hours per week (including preparation and rehearsal) with at least 7.5 hours a week on-site. On-site hours would be 8:00am – 12:30am on Sunday and 5:30pm – 8:30pm on Wednesday. Salary starts at $17,000-19,000 per year depending on experience. Specific hours will be adjusted based on the needs of the church. Participation in seasonal services, such as during Lent, Easter, and Christmas, is included in the stated salary.

Knowledge of United Methodist theology and worship practices is preferred.
