Director of Music Ministries
/Bethany UMC--Austin is looking to hire a Director of Music Ministries
This full-time leader is responsible for casting the vision and executing a comprehensive and multi-faceted music ministry, including choral, orchestral, bell choir, and contemporary music for all ages. As the leader of music ministries, you will participate in worship planning, drive music selection, conduct and participate in musical performances, supervise both paid and volunteer music staff, recruit members to participate in the music programs, and provide spiritual and pastoral leadership for all involved in music ministries.
Principal Responsibilities:
PROGRAMMING:
• Select music to align with sermon themes in traditional worship services (hymns, special music)
• Select music, plan and lead weekly rehearsals for the various Bethany musical groups, including SonShine Singers (8:15 worship), Chancel Choir (11:00 worship), Bethany Bells, Bethany Orchestra and Journeymen
• Plan, organize, and direct cantatas and other special concerts
• Supervise and oversee directors of all other choirs and ensembles
• Recruit new choir members and volunteers for all music ministries
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Must keep regular office hours
• Must work cooperatively and effectively with Worship Planning Team to plan worship services
• Must participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly full staff meetings
• Must prepare and oversee the budget for all music ministries
• Must attend meetings as necessary to represent the music ministry (Administrative Board meetings, New Member Orientation meetings, etc.)
• Must maintain professional appearance and manner
• Teaching of private lessons is negotiable
LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS:
• Must have understanding of God’s calling and bring prayer and Biblical principles to the position
• Must be an effective spiritual leader who models good Christian character, ethics and discipline for the music teams and congregation, following the UMC Book of Discipline
• Must nurture team members by helping them develop their gifts and graces
• Must establish and maintain a pastoral relationship with musical groups
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Must be organized, prompt, dependable and committed to the job
• Must be an outgoing, self-starting individual with well-developed interpersonal and communications skills, be a team player and experienced in team building
• Must have the ability to build excitement about the music ministry and recruit new members
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Five years previous experience as Director of Music in medium to large membership church
• Experience in supervising paid and/or volunteer staff
