Student Ministries Director

Bandera UMC is seeking a Student Ministries Director.

Bandera UMC seeks to expand established youth programs with specific emphasis on mission and community outreach. BUMC also partners with local youth organizations and maintains a strong relationship with the Bandera schools. This allows it to work closely with each to create a safe and welcoming environment for community youth. The successful applicant will enjoy working with youth, be self-motivated, possess good organizational skills and attention to detail, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and have one to two years’ experience working with youth. Musical ability a plus.

This full-time position offers a salary package between $30,000 & $40,000 annually. A three bedroom home/parsonage is provided along with utilities.

Director of Student Ministries Job Description

Bandera United Methodist Church is a historic and dynamic congregation intentional in using a mixture of tradition and innovation to present Jesus Christ to the world and to meet the needs of our community.

Job Responsibilities:

• Be involved in teens’ lives as their spiritual mentor—establishing healthy and spiritually fruitful relationships with teens to help them love God and others.

• Maintain and enhance the organizational structure of the youth ministry – including regular and thorough communication with youth and parents.

• Strengthen and nurture an adult youth ministry team, which meets regularly, comprised of motivated and equipped parents/adults.

• Prepare and administer age-appropriate Sunday School and fellowship programs and activities by choosing curriculum and relevant resources.

• Oversee the programmatic needs of teaching, training, budget, event participation, and risk management/Safe Gatherings management as it relates to youth ministry.

• Coordinate and oversee the child and youth safety policy, ensuring compliance with Rio Texas Conference of the UMC approved policies.

• Provide on-going opportunities for discipleship, service and outreach.

• Recruit, develop, support and celebrate volunteers.

• Coordinate and oversee fundraising activities that support youth ministry.

• Apply Bandera UMC ministry vision/goals to youth ministry in the church and community.

• Network with area/regional ministries who share a common purpose in ministry.

• Build upon our current ministry, which meets twice weekly and also includes Bible Studies, celebrations, mission trips, retreats, etc.

• Enable our youth and adults to reach more youth and grow together in their faith.

• Update the website and digital signage, this includes uploading sermons to the website.

Qualities needed:

• Love for youth and families.

• Vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

• Commitment to team focused ministry with the pastor, staff and congregational leadership.

• Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience working with youth.

• Strong written & verbal communication skills.

• Computer proficiency/Social Media and minor web design capabilities.

• Self motivation and good organizational/detail work.

Expectations:

• Participation in on-going professional development. (Conferences and staff retreats)

• Understanding and appreciation of Wesleyan Theology and practices.

• Regular attendance at youth activities outside of church setting.

• This is a full-time position and a minimum of forty hours per week will be expected.

Staff members are an important part of the church leadership team and are expected to be a committed Christian who regularly practices the disciplines of prayer, the study of scripture, fellowship with other believers, generous financial giving, and weekly worship attendance at Bandera United Methodist Church and its activities.

Housing and utilities are provided. Our student ministries reach on average 50-100 youth per week with even greater potential and our church is very supportive of our students and children. We are opening a new building in the next few weeks with the entire downstairs dedicated to youth - with showers, laundry and kitchen for overnight groups, etc.
