Assistant Director of Student ministries

University United Methodist Church is seeking a person to assist the Director and Student Ministry Team in the implementation of programs and activities for student ministry (grades 6th-12th).

Assistant Director of Student Ministry (Middle School Focus)
Full time, 40 hours, exempt

The preferred candidate for this position will be someone who:
• Passionate about student ministry, desiring to help students know their importance in the Body of Christ and at University United Methodist Church.
• Is a team player, willing to support the rest of the student ministry team whenever is needed
• Can work independently and operate as a self-starter.
• Is willing to work with families of students to involve them in opportunities to serve and support them in the formation of their student’s spiritual life.
• Is committed about creating a ministry that allows space for authenticity, spiritual growth, and articulation/development of Christian life.
• Is willing and able to imagine new possibilities for engaging students deeper into the life of Christ and the Church.

This position will focus largely on Middle School Ministry, including:
• Sunday morning Rally (planning a theme, designing a calendar in advance, recruiting teachers, working with breakout groups for middle school)
• Assisting with Resemble groups (recruiting volunteers and helping maintain grades 6-8)
• Assisting at Wednesday Night Live weekly. (Leading/recruiting for middle school breakout groups)
• Planning middle school mission
• Leading a team to plan Evening of Glory (a fundraiser for Student Ministry scholarships)
• Assisting in planning 6th grade adventure (in conjunction with the director)
• Assisting with confirmation (in conjunction with the director)
• Helping to plan promotion Sunday
• Creating new pathways and programs to engage students deeper into the life of faith
• Other duties as assigned

This person would be expected to be at all Student ministry events, including Sunday morning Rally, Wednesday night programing, trips and keep regular office hours Monday – Thursday.

Additionally, the preferred candidate will have:
• A degree from an undergraduate institution.
• Prior experience serving in a student ministry setting.
• Willingness to work with a diverse group of students
• Familiarity with The United Methodist Church and its connectional structures.


This is a full time, exempt position. The position includes vacation/sick leave, medical and retirement benefits.
