Summer Internship Positions (Students, Children, Hospitality/Operations, and Outreach Positions)

University United Methodist Church is seeking interns for the summer of 2022.

Summer Internship Positions – Summer 2022

Summer internships at University United Methodist Church are intended to help college students who are discerning a call to vocational ministry. Each internship will include a retreat and weekly classes, provided by our college age ministry, that are intended to encourage peer relationships and spiritual development. Housing arrangements can be discussed with those who are do not live in the area. See below for descriptions of each program internship. Unless otherwise noted, the summer interns are full time from the middle of May to the middle of August. Hospitality/Operations Ministry Summer Intern – (Full Time, 40 hours- Non-Exempt) Hospitality/Operations has an opening for one summer intern. Applicants should be at least 1 year post high school graduation or in graduate school, have a heart for hospitality and have a love and passion for the Lord. Additionally, applicants should be able to be flexible and creative to adapt to the changing community dynamics during and post pandemic.

The intern will lead the planning effort for hospitality events, and assist the hospitality and operations staff, support other church ministries, outside organization using church facilities and overnight groups. Expect a work schedule changing to support specific events (including Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and some overnights to host outside groups). Position starts in late May and concludes in August.

Kids Ministry Summer Intern – (Full Time, 40 hours- Non-Exempt) Kids Ministry currently has openings for two summer interns. The applicants should have graduated high school and have a love and passion for the Lord, children, and families.

Both Kids Ministry summer interns will assist with planning, leading, and attending Vacation Bible School, and either early childhood or elementary age events throughout the summer. They will have large and small group teaching opportunities weekly. They will also have ongoing responsibilities to practice effective communication to leaders and families.

Outreach Ministry Summer Intern – (Full Time, 40 hours- Non-Exempt) Outreach Ministry has an opening for one summer intern. Applicants should be at least 1 year post high school graduation or in graduate school, have a heart for missions, and have a love and passion for the Lord. Additionally, applicants should be able to be flexible and creative to adapt to the changing community dynamics during and post pandemic. The intern will lead the planning effort for a community event focusing on getting the entire family active in local outreach. They will assist the entire outreach staff support other church ministries to include the Middle School and High School Mission trips, and Vacation Bible School. They will coordinate with San Antonio ministries/charities to assist in the design and implementation of a new Christian nonprofit organization focused to support low-income neighborhoods on the Westside of San Antonio.

Recreation Intern – (Part-time, 10-15 hours - Non-Exempt) Recreation Ministry has an opening for one summer intern. The applicants should be 2 years post high school graduation, must be Christ-centered, and have a desire to serve kids, students, and young adults.

The intern will support other ministry areas with recreation needs as well as participating and organizing of open gyms and other programming throughout the summer.

Student Ministry Intern (Full Time, 40 hours – Exempt) Student Ministry has openings for four summer interns. The applicants should be 2 years post high school graduation and have a love and passion for the Lord, students, and families. This internship is intended to help college-aged students who are discerning a call to vocational ministry with students and families.

These interns will assist with planning, leading, and attending our mission trips for Middle School June12-17 and High School July 9-16. They will also rotate through teaching during our weekly worship service, Wednesday Night Live, as well as lead Sunday morning programming for students. The intern team will be responsible for the planning and carrying out of 12-15 intern-led events spread out over the summer. They will also have shared responsibility of sending out a weekly email to all our families and leaders.
