Part-time Latino/Spanish Speaking Minister

Berkeley UMC in Austin is seeking a Part-time Latino/Spanish Speaking Minister
JOB DESCRIPTION: HISPANIC/LATINO LOCAL PASTOR TO SERVE AT BERKELEY UMC (2407 Berkeley Ave, 78745) 
Position available May 1, 2018
Part-time position with salary and some expenses paid by the church. 
Must speak both English and Spanish well.

In August of 2015 a faith community for Spanish speakers was developed at Berkeley UMC. 
A new pastor would ideally continue with the following responsibilities and projects within the church and community: 
BERKELEY UMC INVOLVEMENT: 
Lead Sunday worship - Organize Sunday liturgy, preach, and celebrate communion. 
Lead Sunday School adult class after worship. 
Supervise children’s Sunday School class after worship. 
Lead Bible study and prayer class on Thursday nights. 
Celebrate during the year important dates to our Hispanic/Latino Christian faith/tradition such as: 
Hispanic Heritage Month, Virgin of Guadalupe, Posadas, Three Kings Day, La Candelaria. (The United Methodist calendar is a good resource for this, as well as for the Sunday Lectionary readings for preaching. ) 
Other celebrations when the need arises are: 
Infant presentation, baptism, first communion, quinceanera, weddings, funerals, last rites, etc. 
Fellowship - Attend and assist with families’ celebrations at home and/or church. 
Visitation - Visit the sick at hospital and/or home. 
Visit members to encourage attendance and/or to invite new people. 
Social Media - FB page updates, e-mail, text and telephone calls. 
Transportation - Provide rides to Dr.’s office, legal matters, etc., when requested. Offer rides to district training events, neighborhood activities, etc. 
OUTREACH--COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: 
Partnership work with Cunningham Elementary Public School
Cobras Ballet Folklorico came to exist under church leadership and meets at the school once a week. It’s in its third school year. 
PTA meetings once a month. 
PEAS — Community Garden, every other Saturday. 
ESL classes for neighbors — meets at church on Tuesday morning. 
GAVA “Go Austin, Vamos Austin,” works at Cunningham school providing programs on health and wellness for children and their parents. 
Provides Training and Resources when needed. 
The following projects are happening at present: 
Healthy Corner initiative — 7—Eleven Store. 
Farm Stand once a week. 
Austin Parks Foundation, supports our Cunningham Community Park thru the Adopt-a-Park: Meet once a month. 
Inmigrantes Unidos — meets at church in Fellowship Hall on Sunday afternoon. 
Community Annual Health Fair - Held in the church parking lot during Hispanic Heritage Month for the last three years, and has been very successful.

Staff - church administrative assistant
Office equipment and supplies (e.g. copier/fax)
