AV Technician

Northwest Hills UMC, in Austin, Texas, is seeking an AV Technician.

Job Title: AV Technician

Hours/Week: Sundays, 7:45am-12:15pm. Rental engagements when applicable. Additional services/training hours as necessary. (Less than 12 hours a week.)

Reports To: Director of Youth and Digital Ministry

Compensation: $20-$24 Hourly starting, commensurate with experience

Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA): Part-Time/Hourly

Position Summary: The AV Technician will oversee and administer all aspects of Sunday worship related to AV technology, both in-house and online. In addition, the AV Technician will work alongside, support, and occasionally train volunteers assisting with Sunday worship. Finally, the AV Technician will work with musicians and choirs who rent the sanctuary at Northwest Hills UMC for concerts and performances as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee/train volunteers who work alongside and assist the AV Technician on Sunday mornings.

  • Train necessary church staff, such as the Senior Pastor, Director of Youth and Digital Ministry, and Office Manager to levels of basic competence with AV technology.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with band/bandleader at the 9am Contemporary Service and Choir Director and musicians at 11am Traditional Service to optimize sound mixing for in-house and live-stream audio.

  • Run and manage sound and stream during services by actively participating in mixture of audio and visual components of worship service (soundboard, livestream, and cameras).

  • Test all graphics, slides, or videos that are scheduled to be shown during the Sunday service prior to each service to ensure they are functioning correctly.

  • Maintain and properly use/store equipment such as boards, microphones, cables, and cameras.

  • Ensure handheld and lapel microphones are working properly and have batteries.

  • Set-up and tear-down equipment before and after each service.

  • Keep Director of Youth and Digital Ministry up-to-date on AV needs.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiarity with running digital sound board, light board, and OBS.

  • Knowledge of and capacity to troubleshoot AV software and equipment.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to take direction when collaborating with musicians or other artists present.

  • Demonstrated self-discipline in punctuality and time-management.

  • Education, Experience, and Qualification High school graduate Demonstrated experience with AV production. (Relevant education in AV production may substitute for experience.)

  • Upon hire, must pass a criminal background check and complete church’s required safety training.

 

Physical Requirements: Candidates for this position must be able to lift and carry equipment, bend, and kneel to plug and unplug cables, and frequently move up and down stairs or landings.
