Parish Christian Educator School (PCE)
Next Session: Christian Education Theory
Rev. Dr. Tanya Marie Eustace Campen is an ordained deacon and currently serves as the Director of Intergenerational Discipleship for the Rio Texas Conference.
A native Texan, Tanya was born in Houston and grew up in Midland. She graduated with honors with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music and Religion from Austin College in Sherman. Her Masters of Divinity is from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Tanya received her doctorate of philosophy in Christian education and congregational studies from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. The title of her dissertation is: Experiencing God Together: A Practical Theology for ministry with children. She is currently working on a book with the same title.
Tanya’s research focus is children's spirituality. She has 20 years of experience as a Christian Educator and Minister to Children and Families in the local church and two years at Discipleship Ministries, an agency of the United Methodist Church as the Director of Children and Intergenerational Ministries.
Tanya uses the wisdom received from the children she has worked with to gain insight and discover faithful pedagogical methods for the entire church. Children have taught her how persons grow in their faith when they are connected to God and neighbor through relational and experiential ministry. This forms the foundation for Tanya’s work in intergenerational ministry.
Tanya has contributed book reviews for the Religious Education Association Journal and writes for Discipleship Ministries in the areas of children, family faith formation, and intergenerational ministries. She has also written content for Upper Room, articles for the United Methodist Publishing House, and taught courses for Vibrant Faith. She blogs regularly focusing on issues concerning children, family faith formation, and intergenerational ministry
When Tanya is not at work, she can be found spending time with her husband Ryan Campen and her Portuguese Water Dog, Bela Esperança (beautiful hope). Tanya and Bela are a registered therapy dog team so you might catch Bela working alongside Tanya in ministry.
Tanya also spends a lot of her free time outside- experiencing God’s beautiful creation. Running, cycling, and yoga help keep Tanya connected to God as well as personal meditation, prayer, and her time with beloved friends and family. Tanya has completed three marathons and a Bike MS 150 mile ride. Tanya believes that God is actively present in the lives of all people and enjoys discovering God in every life moment.
