Geographical Study—Latin America: People and Faith

Latin America is largely a concept created in the economic and political realm whose definition changes depending on the goal. Organizations define these regions through separate but distinct considerations of cultural identity, language, history and religious affinity. The author begins with the ancient peoples of Latin America, travels through historical processes of colonization, winds us through independence and immigration, highlights the challenges of this region of the world, and then discusses the role of the Church in Latin America. This study is an invitation to enter this sacred land with respect, to honor the dignity of Latin American people, and to share in the love God has for all of creation.

It offers participants biblical, theological, and ethical insights as the basis of their advocacy on climate justice in churches and in the public sphere.
Spiritual Growth Study—The Bible and Human Sexuality: Claiming God’s Good Gift

The 2016 Spiritual Growth study invites us to explore the complexity of the biblical text and our varied understandings of it in light of human sexuality. We will also examine the influence of theologians and church leaders throughout thousands of years of Judeo-Christian history. Finally, we will consider the influence of family systems, heritage, and changing gender roles, along with the impact of race, class, age, ethnicity, and orientation and how each of us was reared and instructed in our Christian faith.
Teaching the Teachers: Youth and Children Teachers Only
If you are interested in learning how to teach the youth and/or children’s study: Climate Justice: A Call to Hope and Action at your church, sign up for this full-event class. You will learn the study and be exposed to the resources and techniques used to teach by attending the class with the students and working with the teachers.
Young Women’s & One Day Study

This class is being offered to those who cannot attend the entire weekend. It is a one day study on The Bible and Human Sexuality: Claiming God’s Good Gift. It will meet on Saturday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. at St. Paul’s UMC and will include lunch only. América Latina es en gran parte un concepto creado en el ámbito económico y político cuya definición cambia dependiendo de la meta. Las organizaciones definen estas regiones por separado pero con distintas consideraciones de identidad cultural, idioma, historia y afinidad religiosa. El autor comienza con los antiguos pueblos de América Latina, viaja a través de procesos históricos de colonización, nos serpentea a través de la independencia y la inmigración, destaca los retos de esta región del mundo y luego analiza el papel de la iglesia en América Latina. Este estudio es una invitación para entrar en esta tierra sagrada con respeto, honrar la dignidad de las personas de América Latina y para compartir en el amor que Dios tiene para toda la creación.

El estudio de crecimiento espiritual 2016 nos invita a explorar la complejidad de los textos bíblicos y nuestro entendimiento variado de ella a la luz de la sexualidad humana. También se examinará la influencia de los teólogos y líderes de la iglesia a lo largo de miles de años de historia Judeo-cristiana. Por último, consideraremos la influencia de los sistemas de la familia, patrimonio y cambio de los roles de género, junto con el impacto de la raza, clase, edad, origen étnico, orientación y cómo cada uno de nosotros fue criado y se indica en nuestra fe cristiana.
